The definition of assault in Ohio is found in Revised Code §2903.13:
(A) No person shall knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to another or to another’s unborn.
(B) No person shall recklessly cause serious physical harm to another or to another’s unborn.
(C) Whoever violates this section is guilty of assault.
Assault is considered a violent crime and is generally a misdemeanor of the first degree which carries the following penalties: up to six months in jail, $1000 fine plus court costs, possible probation and probation fees, up to 500 hours of community service, and a stay away order prohibiting you from contacting the alleged victim.
